Indian textiles ministry exploring enhanced use of tech textile items

The Indian textiles ministry, under the National Technical Textile Mission (NTTM), is continually discussing with other ministries regarding enhancing use of technical textile items within their domains, according to minister of state for textiles and railways Darshana Vikram Jardosh.

The ministry convened a meeting to explore the possibility of raising the use of technical textiles in railways, she told a recent National Conclave on Sportech on the theme ‘The Future of Sport Textiles and Accessories Industry in India’.

She urged various stakeholders to put forward their inputs that would pave the way for creating a concrete road map for the future of sportech industry in the country.

The conclave was organised in New Delhi by the textiles ministry in partnership with the Indian Technical Textiles Association (ITTA) and the Wool Research Association (WRA), an official release said.

The minister highlighted that the recent initiative regarding Indian apparel and footwear sizing has been a significant step in the sports and footwear industry.

Rajesh Kumar Pathak, secretary, Technology Development Board, said that Indian players have to realise that their major competitors are multinational companies, and therefore, the former’s product quality has to be superior to what is already present in the market to compete.
