Teijin Limited is selling its Japanese subsidiary GH Craft to TIP Composite, aiming to focus on its North American operations. Acquired in 2008, GH Craft has been crucial in composite material design for aerospace, automotive, and railway sectors. Teijin, facing profit shortfalls due to various factors, is reallocating resources to North America.

Japanese company Teijin Limited's Q1 FY23 net sales rose slightly by 0.4 per cent to 244.8 billion yen, but operating income fell sharply to 4.2 billion yen. The fibres and products segment grew, with operating income up 77 per cent, while the materials segment struggled, impacted by a previous plant fire and slow recovery of the Chinese economy.

The consortium of Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University, Fukui Tateami, and Teijin Limited has received manufacturing and marketing approval in Japan for their surgical patch, Synfolium. The patch, used in the treatment of congenital heart disease, consists of bio-absorbable and non-absorbable yarns coated with cross-linked gelatin.

Teijin Frontier has developed nonwoven microcarriers for efficient cell culture. The microcarriers, featuring a unique structure resembling the natural cell environment, promote cell proliferation and circulation of necessary nutrients. Teijin Frontier plans to globally market the microcarriers, aiming for JPY 100 million in sales by fiscal 2026.

Teijin Frontier has developed Solotex Liberte, a functional fabric for sportswear and casual wear. Utilising polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) fibre with low-shrinkage technology, the fabric achieves softness, smoothness, and quick drying properties. Teijin Frontier plans to promote Solotex Liberte globally for autumn and winter 2024 collections.

Japan’s Repeat has announced that the company has signed an agreement to license its chemical recycling technology for polyester products to Zhejiang Jianxin Jiaren New Materials, as the world's first company to be licensed by Repeat. Repeat is a company engaged in licensing business based on technology for chemical recycling of polyester products.

Japan’s Teijin has launched a lightweight, strong and cost-effective carbon fibre woven fabric developed with the company’s proprietary tow-spreading technology. The new woven fabric is made with 3K (3,000) carbon fibre filament yarn for applications requiring low weight and design flexibility, such as automotive interior materials and sporting goods.
