Applications of Distance Fabrics and Multiple Layer Weaves in Technical Textiles

Written by: Dominique Maes

In the field of technical textiles, the companies of the Vande Wiele Group are active in different sectors of textile machinery and areoffering solutions to actual demands of their technical textile customers.

NV Michel van de Wiele, the leading supplier of carpet andvelvet weaving machines offers machinery and know-how, based on the doublecloth weaving principle. Double cloth fabrics have three yarn systems: pilewarp, backing warp and weft. With the double cloth weaving process, twosuperimposed backing fabrics are woven simultaneously, while the pile warp isconnecting both fabrics together. The so obtained double fabric is split on thedouble rapier weaving machine by the pile cutting motion into a top and bottomfabric.

When the pile cutting motion is not used, the Van de Wieleweaving machines are able to produce distance fabrics, transportation fabricsand other technical fabrics.

The weaving process gives the opportunity to create densetop and bottom layers with almost stretched fibers, and with connectionsbetween those layers.
